So Extra (Improvisational - Secondary Level)

For outstanding creativity in Central Challenge

This team utilized velcro to take their costume kit to another level of incredible. They created several base costume pieces (such as a shirt, a cape, etc.) that had velcro attached in addition to creating a multitude of art, letter, and adornment attachments that could be added or removed to the base pieces to create completely customized costumes. Special shoutout to the pair of glasses that had interchangeable velcro eyes to completely change the appearance of a character. Not only was each attachment beautifully designed, but they were also meticulously organized so that each letter/emoji/etc was quick and easy to find in their very limited prep time.

For outstanding risk-taking and creativity in Central Challenge

By composing a live score for their presentation, the Boon Birds took a next level risk to create continuity. The multi-dimensional music, vocals, props, and backdrop worked in unison to present a dynamic performance and build dramatic tension.

In Motion (Fine Arts - Elementary Level)

For outstanding Performance in Central Challenge

The team used simple but effective storytelling to depict Van Gogh's inspiration for A Starry Night. Encompassing language learned in social/emotional lessons in school, they teach the Wishing Star how to be humble, caring, and kind as it grants wishes. They had 3 mini-lessons included in the skit, integrating their kinetic art piece to summarize the lessons and end the play. Dialogue and acting added to the overall theatrical effect.

This team preformed a wonderfully rehearsed and produced rap song about their chosen scientific method complete with a corresponding story book.

For outstanding Performance and Design in Central Challenge

A sudden Sundae delivered on Saturday was just the first surprise this team served up. Their multi sensory performance and truly outstanding lighting design challenged our senses of sight, proportion, balance and humor.

This award is offered for exceptional Spirit, Teamwork, Volunteerism, and Sportsmanship.

For outstanding teamwork and sportsmanship in Central Challenge

With just two weeks to go before the Regional Tournament, a younger DI team at the Boss Babe's school dissolved leaving one student who was still interested in being part of a team. The Boss Babe's included this student in their performance, creating a new character, new costuming, and a new portion of the story as if he had been part of the team all along. They even created a customized shirt for their new Boss Bro.

This team showed excellent sportsmanship when the team before them forgot a prop and sent a parent out to get it. The teams switched spots and this team went on to preform early.
